The Mucem Unveils the Exhibition “Amazigh: Cycles, Ornaments, Patterns”

Mucem, Marseille

At the Mucem, the exhibition “Amazigh: Cycles, Ornaments, Patterns” explores the living dynamics and modern practices of the Amazigh people, far from the outdated and reductive stereotypes. This project is the outcome of an inspiring collaboration between the Mucem and the Fondation Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech, who have combined their respective expertise and collections to offer a plural, multifaceted vision of the Amazigh world.

Curated by architect and anthropologist Salima Naji and director of the Jardin Majorelle museums Alexis Sornin, the exhibition combines Moroccan collections with those from other territories, exploring the diversity of Amazigh symbols. Thanks to a thoughtful and nuanced approach, the show tackles contemporary reflections on identity, memory and resilience. Drawing connections between ancient practices and modern issues, it presents new perspectives while respecting the very essence of these cultures. Taken from a societal and anthropological angle, the project highlights dynamics of exchange and peaceful co-existence.

At the inauguration, we met Pierre-Olivier Costa, Marie-Charlotte Calafat, Salima Naji, Alexis Sornin and many others.
